The HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario (HALCO) is a community legal clinic serving the legal
needs of people living with HIV in Ontario. HALCO staff provide legal advice and representation, and engage in public legal education, law reform and community development activities. We are seeking a Staff Lawyer for a 12 month contract starting in summer 2021.

Responsibilities
The Staff Lawyer will provide advice, referrals, and brief services, and will also handle case
files. The lawyer will focus largely on income maintenance, tenancy, human rights and other
administrative law matters. The lawyer may have the opportunity to participate in the clinic’s
public legal education, law reform and community development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
• Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Knowledge of clinic/poverty law (e.g., income maintenance, tenancy, human rights)
• Experience working with equity-seeking communities
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of HIV-affected communities
• Fluency in French
Compensation: $66,000 – $71,000 range (commensurate with experience), employer supported RRSP (5.5% of annual salary), and benefits
