Federal Government Announces One-Time Tax-Free Payment for Some People with Disabilities (updated July 30, 2020)

On June 5, 2020, the federal government announced that people with disabilities who hold a Disability Tax Credit certificate as of June 1, 2020, will receive a one-time tax-free payment.  This will include:

  • $600 for individuals with a Disability Tax Credit Certificate
  • $300 for individuals with a Disability Tax Credit Certificate who are eligible for the Old Age Security (OAS) pension
  • $100 for individuals with a Disability Tax Credit Certificate who are eligible for both the OAS pension and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS)

On July 27, 2020, the Federal government announced that eligibility for the one time tax-free payment will be extended to those who currently receive Canada Pension Plan disability benefits or Quebec Pension Plan disability benefits; or who are in receipt of disability supports provided by Veterans Affairs Canada.
