Community Information Session Tomorrow about the Supreme Court Ruling on HIV Disclosure

Community Information Session for community members, people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and service providers

Wednesday, October 10, 2012, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the 519 Community Centre Ballroom, 519 Church Street, Toronto.

This community information session will provide a legal review, and will also include some of the practical, emotional and mental impacts on individuals and our community.

HALCO, Prisoners HIV/AIDS Support Action Network (PASAN), Toronto People With AIDS Foundation (PWA) and other members of the Ontario Working Group on Criminal Law & HIV Exposure (CLHE) are hosting this information session for community members, people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, and service providers.

This session will provide an early interpretation of the important Supreme Court ruling on HIV disclosure that was released on October 5, 2012.  It will also provide a community space for discussion and support. Our understanding of the full impact of this case, its impact on our lives and the required next steps for community and advocates will continue to unfold over the coming weeks.  However, it was felt to be critical that an early opportunity be provided for community to meet and increase our understanding, clarify the confusing and conflicting media reports, and begin to create a community understanding.
